OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Edo Community Kassel e.V. Germany is a registered and philanthropic organisation, founded in 2002. The community is non-governmental, non-religious and non-political. The Association is open to any person of Edo State origin who is of or above the age of 18. All the activities are carried out voluntarily by the members and supporters.
The member set their major policies and goals through the approval of executive which consist of 5 persons. The programmes and policies set by the executive are presented at the general assembly for discussion before being executed.
OUR AIMS
Our purpose is to help Nigerians especially the Edo people through social and cultural integration abroad by creating awareness and providing them with the information they need. We also organise symposiums and events to promote the Edo culture abroad. At home, in Edo State, we engage with organisations such as hospitals and orphanage homes and give them assistance when they need help.
AFFILIATION
We are working hand-in-hand with the Edo community of Nigeria e.V. known as the National Body in Darmstadt (Hessen-Germany). The member branches are located in different states in Germany. A National summit takes place every 6 months.
The executives of the National body are elected democratically and they come from the different member states. The avenue for a national summit is rotated – it takes place in different locations where there is a community branch. With the help of the National Body and her affiliated members, a lot has been achieved.
In the years between 2004 and 2006, the renovation of the male and female accident ward in Benin Central Hospital was carried out. Also, two female labourers were employed by the community to assist in the cleaning and sanitation of the wards in the hospital. The community assisted the hospital in the renovation of the children’s ward financially and donated items such as ceiling fans, lighting and hospital equipment.
In 2007, the Freiburg community branch was assisted by the National body to provide and deliver hospital equipment to the commissioner for health in Edo State. These items include cartons of Bandages, injections, Drips, Disinfections etc.
The work continues, the project is a journey, to read about the projects the community has done till date, check on our project page regularly for updates.
