What a day! The long awaited and promised excursion to Hannover Zoo was one of the most enjoyable and satisfactory events in the life of Edo community, Kassel. The journey started at about 08:00 am in the early morning of the 27th of June 2009 and ended at about 17:00 pm. The weather was splendid; it was dried, bright with mild sunshine and indeed was very conducive for this event.
Attendance was great – most members of the community and their families, relatives and other invited guests were all present. The bus was filled to the brim. The journey to and from the park was very interesting, the air was filled with joy and humour, the children were brimful of excitement and they had real fun, which added extraordinarily beautiful pulses to the rhythms of those captivating moments together.
At the zoo, as we travelled around the park in local boats, we wondered how it might have felt as Mongo Park, Hugh Clapperton and a host of others travelled to the west coast of Africa for the first time. The boats were made out of woods; it was actually a replicate of some of those used as far back as a century by the European travellers into the interiors of Africa.
We experienced the savannah, Yukon’s Bay and the Asiatic wilderness. The jungle river cruise was very interesting – as we floated, beautiful sceneries emerged; we witness a lot of animals and birds at the riverside. Antelopes, Rhinoceros, Giraffe, wild cats, Elephants, Flamingos, etc, were some of the vast range of animals and birds species we witnessed at the park. The zoo actually demonstrates a rich variety of fauna and flora – the best part of it all are the beautifully carved out landscapes and such fine details like exotic grasses, water ponds, rivers, caves, that all added up to create a strong resemblance of the real habitats.
The centre of our amusement as parents was our children who were so excited, inquisitive and funny. The Hannover zoo is not only just for sightseeing or exploration but also equipped with great bars and restaurants – in one of which we ate our lunch as one big family. Such facilities like the toboggan-run and children playgrounds were also available for children. We had great fun sliding down the 10 meters high “Monte Waldemar” ridge in inflated rubber tires. It was absolutely fantastic!
After arriving from Hannover, at the park-and-ride junction Kassel, we were all tired but yet finding it difficult to part. We shook hands with friends and guests and acknowledged that our goals were achieved. We then later left for our respective homes in the hope that what we experienced will broaden our horizons and the way we relate to our world.
The community would like to take this opportunity to thank the Reifer Transport Corporation in Höxter for their fabulous services, and also to all members who contributed generously to make this trip a successful one. We also heartily thank all invited guests who took their precious time to honour our invitation – we are really glad to have had you with us. Once again we thank you all.
