The Edo Community Germany represented by Mr Lando Eguavoen, President Kassel Branch, along with some other members of the National Body, paid a courtesy call to the Governor’s Office in Benin City during his visit to Nigeria in March 2013. They were received by the Deputy Governor, Dr Pius Egberanmwen Odubu and the chief of staff to the state Governor, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon.
On this visit, the Community expressed its appreciation and the views of many indigenes of the state living in Germany, over the apparent enhancement of the state infrastructures and the effort to inject some sense of decorum into the government so far, by the current administration. It is superfluous to say, that the state has been for decades, in abandonment.
Notably, are the vigorous efforts to revamp the Structural facilities as well as the building of several new educational institutions, road networks, street lights, including in some quarters, traffic lights. Perhaps the most outstanding of all is the rejuvenation of the dilapidated Central Hospital, Benin City.
One could argue that these are functions of a responsible government to their people but sadly, in our system, these cannot be taken for granted as had been demonstrated in recent past. Hence, we want to laud the Governor and his crews on the path they have chosen and urged them to stay focused. This administration is setting a precedence which we fervently hope will be sustained and at best, improved upon by subsequent ones.
We, the Edo Community in Germany, are also striving to achieve similar mission which is: to improve the social welfare of our people in Edo state. To this effect, we have made donations to some Hospitals and orphanage homes in the state and hope to be able to do more in the future. Therefore, it seems logical to us, that the government recognizes our intentions and supports us in the efforts to foment a profitable partnership with the communities and states in Germany so as to facilitate further our goals, which are synonymous to aims of the current administration. Mr Eguavoen reiterated as a result, why we missed the presence of the Governor (whom we invited) during the Edo state Cultural Festival that was held in Germany July 2010 with the presence of some dignitaries whose influences could have been harnessed by or at least, be of interest to the state.
The Deputy Governor pledged to forward our observations and concerns to the Governor while hinting at a better relationship with the Community in the future.
We would like to thank the Deputy Governor and the chief of staff to the state Governor, for their cordial reception of our members.
Lastly, we would also want to thank Mr Lando Eguavoen and others who accompanied him to this meeting, for promulgating our interest on our behalf.
