The Cultural Festival, which took place between the 29th of September and the 1st of October, 2017 in Kassel, with participants from Turkey, Croatia, South Korea and Eritrea among others, was an outstanding one. The Event, which is organised annually by the Foreigner Board of Kassel, is aimed at enhancing the integration of the Immigrant Communities as well as, promoting good relationship amongst the people living in Kassel. To this regard, registered international Communities are invited to participate in the Street Food Festival.
Upon receiving her invitation earlier this year, Edo Community Kassel geared up her efforts toward ensuring that her presence was felt and this year´s appearance is made better than the previous ones. It was a big programme which required some extra hands. Consequently, the assistance of all members and their partners was solicited and obtained, with great enthusiasm. All necessary paraphernalia for the event were procured. As usual, the Stages for music and dance for the audience were supplied by the organizers.
On the day of Event however, there was an additional boost from other Edos in the City who were in attendance. Although they were non-members of the Edo community, but nonetheless, heartily yielded their support. During those three days of celebrations, the Spectators were wonderful. Foreign food and drinks were bought and eaten; the bystanders were made to understand the saying that: “the taste of the pudding lies in the eating”. We provided details of the ingredients with which the foods were prepared to the spectators and it was a welcomed idea, thus making it an effective strategy. The Atmosphere was brilliant: it was sunny and dry all through, which added an extra pep to the festivities. The visitors were happy to see, taste and eat something different other than what they were accustomed to. The occasion was most likely to remain in the memories of the people both inside and outside of Kassel who were in attendance.
Although we had some series of events lined up for the year, we were nevertheless, able to present a decent show which was, as indicated by the response of the “guests”, greatly successful.
This policy of the Foreigner Advisory Board is and remains a symbol of unity to all people living in and around Kassel; it is meant to provide the foreigners and the indigenes, an avenue for easier integration and understanding while at the same time highlighting the need for the foreigners, to embrace the culture of the community in which they live. We are wholly supportive of this purpose hence we did not hesitate, to accept and be a part of this great Event. At this juncture, we would like to express our profound appreciation to the Foreigner Board for the invitation and their exalted efforts towards achieving this splendid goal.
The proceeds derived from our appearance on this Festival will be used to continue work on our Leprosy project in Nigeria. At this point, we would like to express our appreciations to our marriage partners for their selfless contributions: for their times and energies which they dedicated to making our appearance worthwhile. Surely, we would also like to include in our gratitude the non-members of Edo Community, who likewise proffered their invaluable support for our efficacious involvement in this year´s Event.
