CULTURAL FESTIVAL –KASSEL 2016

The cultural festival known as “Street food Festival” that took place in Kassel from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October 2016 is organised yearly by The Advisory Committee for Foreigners, to promote the cultural heritage of the people living there. It is an opportunity utilized by unions and clubs yearly, to demonstrate their heritage in different and unique ways. Communities of countries like South Korea, China, and Cameroon honoured the invitation. The Nigerian communities were not left out; the Ododuwa and the Edo Community took part in this colourful festival.The festival attracted a substantial amount of people from far and near; people with keen interest and great motivation came to witness the event despite the intermittent rain.Some communities had food stalls where they demonstrated and sold their local food and drinks. We had our own stall where we prepared some food items such as rice with stew, fried plantain served with stew or a combination of rice and fried plantain with stew. We also prepared Chin-Chin snacks made from white millet, eggs, some sugar and of course with some other local and special ingredients.

Apart from the myriad of food with their diverse and unique tastes, there were also concerts – singers and dancers on stage, music was played and the audience waved, clapped their hands and cheered with excitement and admiration appreciating their efforts – the festival was indeed of great joy and merriment.

The community handed out flyers to many individuals that attended or participated in the celebration. The message on the flyer promotes the awareness of our commitments regarding The-Leprosy-Project. The flyer also contained information on how to support the community to achieve its primary goal which is providing humanitarian support to the leprosy victims in Ossiomo-Ogan, in Edo State of Nigeria.

The festival finally came to an end after a two-day celebration. While looking forward to the next festival, we wish to express our delightfulness to have taken part in the festival and we also wish to thank our devoted members and their families for their contribution towards making it a successful and remarkable one.
